Project Profile: Academic Press
Client: Harcourt Publishing

Academic Press, one of the largest publishers in the scientific, technical, and medical marketplace, is presently converting a significant portion of their business from printed matter that is physically distributed, to digital content available on-line. These products are promoted through an active marketing website that includes a commerce enabled book catalog. Academic Press offers a number of on-line services hosted on multiple servers at on-site and off-site locations.

4GL Solutions developed a data warehouse/reporting environment for analyzing usage statistics from these content delivery systems. This unified reporting system enables Academic Press to measure sales performance, provide clients with usage statistics for their paid services, and to exploit usage-based business models. This reporting environment features a GUI (point and click) reporting interface to host a variety of novice to sophisticated users who need to produce hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly reports displaying "real time" information. It is a fully functional decision support environment enabling users to develop/build dynamic, customized, reports, perform multidimensional on-line analytical processing, on-line analytical processing, and relational on-line analytical processing. Reports can be formatted to meet specific requirements of the users. Additionally, reports can be pre-defined and developed so that users will need little to no training in creating them. This environment incorporates "push and pull" server technology with automatic query processing and report distribution, allowing for zero IT administration. This solution provides an integrated business intelligence suite incorporating capabilities for query, analysis, and analytical reporting across both client/server and Web environments.
