4GL Solutions teamed with the University of California, San Diego, Office of Admissions and Registrar (OAR) to build a Red Brick Data Warehouse on a NT platform with a FOCUS For Windows front end reporting system.
The warehouse facilitated a mandated move off the mainframe to a local server environment. Mainframe FOCUS reports were migrated into a GUI FOCUS front end, preserving existing code.
Data stored in the warehouse included student information, class schedules, registrations, and class information. 4GL consultants designed and built the data warehouse schema, loaded data into the warehouse, performed data cleansing, and converted mainframe FOCUS code and data to the windows environment.
This new technology empowered users with local control of their data, controlled printing options (print only pages needed), and enabled them to move data to other tools (Excel, Word).
The staff also found it easier to manage the structure of their database in a warehouse setting. Users gained a new level of expertise and increased productivity with the client/server technology.
UCSD’s partnership with 4GL enabled their users to achieve a faster learning curve, accomplished a rapid implementation of new technology, and gave users access to knowledgeable experts.
